Coach Buck Dixon is tak"g the basketball basket-ball players through their pre-sea-son training and the track men are starting to limber up their muscles I for spring tracks i Wrestlers Out, Too I ' There are no idle momenta- for the wrestlers either. Coach Au-bert Au-bert Cote has issued a call for the bone crushers, and a big squad headed by Captain Robert Yorga-son Yorga-son responded. The grunt and growlers expect to take the starter and conference this season. ,:. So much for the goings on. ' Ott Romney is expecting a tough battle this week against the Western State machine and is driving driv-ing his charges at top speed, getting get-ting them back in tip-top physical condition and the right frame of mind. It looks like Steve Murdock will start at center for the varsity and Gus Shields will be at one guard. The other starting guard will be picked from Melvin Griffith, Grif-fith, Wayne Peterson and Bernell Lewis. At tackles will be Captain Keith Wangsgard and Pete Jensen. The ends will be taken care of by Robison and Eggertsen. It looks like Red Merrill will get the nod at quarterback, with Pete Wilson and Ernie Shober doing halfback duty. Marvin Skousen will play the fullback position. Romney's gang still carries a few cripples from the Ute tussle. Iman Hales is nursing a couple of broken brok-en ribs,, while Vernon "Onion" Con-die Con-die is taking care of a bad Charley horse. Hap Nisonger bruised his hip in a bad way, but will be able to play Saturday if Coach Romney needs him. Seek Winning Stride The game this week should give the fans a chance to see the Cougars Cou-gars hit their winning stride. The , State eleven will be tough, but not the toughest in the league, The State boys walloped Colorado Minues, 19 to 0, last week, and undeniably un-deniably have .their strongest team in many seasons. The week before they scored three touchdowns in , five minutes against the Utah Aggies. Ag-gies. The Cougars will be crippled to a degree, but they should be able to score a victory. Coach Telford Meade and his fighting warriors will arrive in Provo Friday afternoon in time for a short wokout in the "Y" stadium. |
