Feb. 16 (U.H),i The "box car battalion," a ragged j "band of 25 jobless World War vet- j erans, prepared today to open a j quiet campaign which they hope , will aid in bringing about better care for their disabled soldier buddies. '"We arrived quietly and we will leave quietly," Taylor said, adding that "we represent the breadlines , of Seattle." i The "box car battalion" the i group received this name in Butte, i Mont., and it stuck had 127 mem- ; bers on leaving Seattle three weeks ago. . Forty diopped out at Spokane Spo-kane because of severe colds, while inability to withstand the hardships occasioned by lack of warm clothing cloth-ing and food forced others to turn back later. There were only two pairs of gloves among the 25 men when they reached the capital. They took turns in using the gloves, members of the group said in recalling some of the hard times encountered on the long trip. |
