Show Students Compile i History One of the a.osl commendable ae- , complishmcnts of the Springville j seventh g-.auc pupils this year is a scrap book compiled and arranged by the Utah history class under the direction of the history teacher, A. 1 O. Ellett. "ach student during the past semester has been working on an individual scrap book, and when these were all completed the best material was taken from each and a master book compiled. The first i pages of the book are filled with I pictures, magazine clippings, and data on the eaily Indians of the ; state, followed by a somewhat exhaustive ex-haustive history of Jim Bridget- and his explorations and discoveries, together to-gether with brief mention o other less important eaily pioneers: Most of tins history was gleaned from recent Utah publicatios. Interesting In-teresting illustrations of pioneer ; school "nouoes, an early post office, ! the first sugar mill located at Sugar : House, Salt Lake City, and a pio-l pio-l neer saw mill challenge an interest i in the pioneer stories and events i that follow. jJarly day music and ' drama receive fitting attention by : means of cuts of the pioneer or-I or-I chestras, old locial halls, the 5?T Lake theater, and accounts of early theatrical performances. .The last half o the book represents repre-sents the Utah of today in picture , and story. , Emphasis is placed on its scenic attractions, its mineral and agricultural wealth and livestock live-stock industry, by means of folders issued by various chambers of commerce com-merce throughout the state. These have been procured by students and are included in their entirety in the scrap book. The final pages emphasize the assets of Utah county its location, climate, air, skies, lakes and rivers, trees, life, mountains, minerals, soil and history. The students have received an invitation in-vitation from seventh grade students stu-dents in Springfield, Colorado, to exchange their book for one from Colorado, which they are contemplating contem-plating doing. It is altogether a highly instructive and creditable ; achievement. |
