GATES With the flag at half mast, Brift-ham Brift-ham Young university Monday honored the memory of Mrs. fausa Young Gates, member of the board of trustees who died in Salt Lake City Saturday. She was one of the early graduates and a former for-mer faculty member of the institution, institu-tion, Which her father, Brigham Young, founded. In a memorial service held in college hall at 11:30 today President Presi-dent F. S. Harris paid earnest tribute tri-bute to Mrs. Gates. He described her lifelong enthusiasm for the Ibest in education. She had served longest on the B. Y. U. board of trustees and had always been one of the best friends of the institution, institu-tion, he said. The university mixed chorus directed by Dr. Franklin Madsen, sang one of Mrs. Gates, favorite hymns, "Hark, Hark! Angelic Minstrels Min-strels Sing," composed by B. Cecil Gates, her son. The invocation was offered by Gerrit de Jong, Jr., dean of the college of fine arts. Professor G. C. Wilson, head ot the religious education department, depart-ment, also spoke. . The chorus sang at the burial services for Mrs. Gates this afternoon. after-noon. Numerous faculty members' and students also attended. Stu- |
