Show BIGBASEB ALL BENEFIT DANCE TO BE GIVEN IN OPERA HOUSE FRIDAY EVENING, APRIL 23RD Arrangements for ii baseball benefit dance to be held la the Springville Opera bouse Friday, April 23 were made nt an enthusiastic enthus-iastic meeting of Sprlugville baseball base-ball fans Wednesday evening. There were present about 20 persons. What the meeting laeked in number it made up for in enthusiasm. John Mendeuhall, president of the Kiwanis club which sponsored the organization of the ball club this year, assured the players and fans that every Kiwanlnu of Springville is behind the club. He said that everything would be done to insure one of the most successful baseball seasons in Springville. George Barron, member of the city council, told of the effort of the city fathers to make the Springville Spring-ville baseball park one of the most outstanding! in the county, if not the state. The city has purchased a tract of ground adjoining the ball park on the west for recreational purposes and will make the two parks into one. An effort will be made to sod the ball park so' as to make it attractive to the players as well as to the fans. Dell Webb, city recreationnl director direc-tor of l'rovo and former secretary of the Central Utah baseball league, spoke of the accomplishments of the league last year, emphasizing especially espec-ially the splendid showing made by the Springville squad. He declared that although the club stated out last year with raw material It made an exceptional showing. Even against the best tennis of veterans in the league the Springville squad showed up well: Some of the best games of the league were played in Springville, Mr. Webb urged that the team for the present year be built around that of last and that the home talent be given every opportunity to get n berth on tile squad. He discouraged the importation of players, declaring declar-ing that the baseball fans of the county would rather see the local boys in action than a lot of strangers. strang-ers. "Ike" Young, who has been selected se-lected recreational director of Springville for the summer mouths, outlined the arrangements so that the club could begin the year in a better financial condition than ever I before. |
