Show FIGHT FOR LIFE BETWEEN MEN ANDSHERIFF PRICE, April 10. Sheriff Ray Deming of Carbon county was shot in the leg Thursday morning in the hills between Rolapp and. Standardville, two Carbon county coal camps near by, by Andy Strakey, believed be-lieved to be one of the two men who staged the holdup at Dividend, Utah county, last Saturday night. Deputy Sheriff L. H. Beebe of Standardville heard of Strakey's presence in Standardville Stand-ardville early Thursday morn- ing. While the officer was trailing' him in the hills, Strakey doubled back to Standardville and held up a1 poolhall. Word of the holdup was immediately im-mediately sent to Price, in re-, re-, sponse to which Sheriff Dem-ing Dem-ing and several of the officers set out on the hunt for the bandit. The posse overtook Strakey in the foothills and the bandit shot Sheriff Deming in the left leg just below the knee. No sooner had the bandit fired his gun, than Deputy Beebe shot him through the ribs. Sheriff Deming was taken to the Castle Gate hospital while Strakey was taken to the county jail in Price. |
