Show DON ALLRED'S BODY IS FOUND COVERED BY 20 FEET OF SNOW HEAR CREST OF FIRST SLIDE One week and one hour after the fatal snowslide at Bridal Veil falls in Provo canyon Saturday, March 29, in which two men were killed and several injured, the body of the second victim, Don Allred of Lakeview, was found at 10:10 o'clock Saturday morning. The body was taken to the Hatch Funeral Home where it is being prepared for burial. Alfred's body was found on the southeast end of the slide on the upper side of the canyon just a few feet from the place where he was last seen alive by his brother-in-law, Spencer Madsen of Lakeview. The upper part of the body was mashed and mangled as a result of it being crushed between the snowbank and a heavy timber which was found near the body. The left arm, shoulders, chest and head had been mashed. Every bone in that part of the body had been crushed by the severe jam between the log and the snowbank. Apparently Allred had not gone far in his flight for life when the large avalanche of snow came hurtling hur-tling through the air from the cliffs 1200 feet above the place where the men were working in cleaning away the snow and debris of an earlier slide. The surmise of the rescue workers is that in bis flight Allred fell into a small hole and was immediately im-mediately caught across the upper part of the body by the log and the onrushing snow, more than 20 feet i of which covered his body. I Death came instantaneously, in the belief of tho.se who saw the condition con-dition in which the body was discovered. dis-covered. Work in searching for the missing tiody and in removing the snow from the railroad tracks was continued early Saturday morning. Most of the efforts of the day were to be concentrated on the south side of the Provo river, most of the snow having already been removed from the north bank and the river also having been cleared up. While digging a deep hole for the planting of some powder with which to dynamite the snow, one of the workmen uncovered one of the t hands of the missing body. Immediately the shout went out that the body had been discovered and scores of workmen from all around rushed over to assist in digging dig-ging it out. The men worked hurriedly hur-riedly and soon the entire body was in view to the large crowd which bed gathered. The body was lying on an incline. in-cline. The face was downward and the arms were outstretched. None of the clothing of the body had been torn off by the avalanche. As soon as the body had been uncovered un-covered it was plnced on the train and taken to Provo where the body was turned over to the Hatch Undertaking company. A sigh of relief went up from the many rescue workers who have worked insiduously each day since the calamity. Many of the workers are friends of the bereaved family and assisted in the search merely to hurry the discovery of the body of the missing man. Among the rescue workers at the, time of the finding of the body were his only brother, Edward Allred of Spring City, and one of his half- I brothers. Bert Allred, also of j Spring City. ! Don Allred was one of 55 men who had been employed by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad company com-pany to go to Bridal Veil falls in Provo canyon a week ago Saturday to remove the snow of a snowslide of the previous day from the tracks of the neber route. While the men were working another an-other slide occurred which buried Allred and Mark Hyslop of Provo and injured several others. The body of Hyslop was found at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon on the north bank of Provo river with his legs in the water. None of the injured were seriously seri-ously hurt. Besides his wife, Mrs. Pearl Mad-sen, Mad-sen, Don Allied is survived by his mother, Mrs. Annie E. Allred of Spring City, one brother, Edward Allred; three half-brothers, Eugene Allred.
