Show UTAH LAKE PROJECT IS EXCLUDED No Funds Included in Budget For Utah Lake Control LEATHERWOOD TELLS OF BUREAU ACTION Present indications are that no pfunds are available for the proposed pro-posed (Utah lake reclamation project, pro-ject, including the diking of the lake and the reclaiming of more than 7000 -lcres in Provo bay, according I t o advices reaching here from Wash-; Wash-; ington, D. C. The budget for the : Salt Lake basin re.cTHmai:on project i dues not include any funds for the Utah lake project. The reclamation service has continually con-tinually refused to include in the budget for the larger project any funds for the Utah lake control, claiming that waterusers -of Utah and Salt Lake counties must come to a definite agreement before the department will recommend any action ac-tion of the lake project . In a letter to persons interested in the project Congressman E. O. Leotherwood has the following to say : "We find that, the bureau of the budget has made no estimate for ; the Provo hay work. Dr. Mead (director of the United States bureau bur-eau of reclamation says) that.no estimate was asked for, because of the fact that an agreement will have to be reached with reference to the 'level of Utah lake, between Utah and Salt Lake counties. "For that, reason the appropriation appropria-tion as it will appt'r in the hill for the Salt Lake basin project will probably make no reference t Provo bay and Utah lake control. But under un-der the circumstances I take it that it will not make any difference. Tf an agreement, is reached next summer, sum-mer, then the item can be restored in tho nexi budiret estimate.'' Another ffort to reach an agreement agree-ment bet wen the waterusers of the two counties will be made in the near future, according to those who are working in the interest of the lake control. Already several such efforts have been made during the past several years. |
