Health and sanitation was the predominating subject before the Springville city council in regular session Tuesday evening July 1. Dr. George A. Anderson, city physician phy-sician mid member of the city board of health, came before the council with two camplaints ; first the complaint com-plaint of citizens living in the neighborhood of the pea shelling plant, owned by the National Packing Pack-ing Co., wherein it is complained that the odor coming from the pea vines, which are being stacked by the plant is a public nuisance. This matter was refered back to the public pub-lic health department in connection with the city attorney. The second complaint was the unsanitary condition con-dition reported in the business district, dis-trict, through the center of block 12. This matter received serious consideration con-sideration and the city board of health in connection with the city attorney were instructed to serve notice no-tice on the property owners and then enforce the law. . Councilman Mendenhall reported that arrangements were completed to have the Springville band give Sunday afternoon concerts on the city park. He also reported that the Springville band would give two open air concerts on the park on the Fourth of July, one in the morning and one in the evening. A recommendation by the irrigation irriga-tion and waterworks committees, to the effect that all persons who were delinquent in their water dues, would be cut off, was unanimously adopted. The public improvements commit-tte commit-tte was instructed ot see the pro-peiy pro-peiy owners of the district recently destroyed by fire, one the west side of Main street and get this part of the city cleaned up and put in a more respectable condition, i The street committee was iu-, iu-, structed to put on an extra man to help keep the streets sprinkled. ; It was reported that electricians, plumber and contractors from out of town were bidding on work in Springville against local men whoj had a city license and the council! was asked to inforco the license law, on parties coming in from the out-, side. The petitioners staled that other towns in the country always require a trade licence and a material ma-terial license from outside contractors' contrac-tors' while the Springville workmen have no protection in this regard. The matter was deferred for investigation, investi-gation, however it was inferred that a stringent ordinance in this regard will be passed. Rhode Brothers were granted a license to open up a bicycle shop in Springville and Claude Larson was granted a license to carry on a resturant business. The bills for the month were presented pre-sented and all approved. |
