While Sheriff Boyd was in the hotel questioning Holden and the Pratt girl, Lewis and the McGuird girl come to the hotel to pay a visit to their friends. The two men were lodged in the county jail, held for investigation and the girls were kept in the juvenile ju-venile room. Until Saturday night, : both girls stoutly maintained that they were 18 years of age. Then they called for Sheriff Boyd and between be-tween sobs told him that they would feel much better if they told him the truth about their age. Sheriff Boyd wired the McGuire girl's mother of her whereabout Saturday Sat-urday and in a few hours received a telegram and a telephone call from Sheriff Smith to hold the two men i as he had a felony warrant for both of them. The four told a lurid story to Sheriff Boyd. After leaving Bozeman, Boze-man, they alleged they were picked up an in an automobile at Butte, Mont., over a week ago by three young men in a Hudson car. With them the four rode past Springville. Passing the Evergreen cemetery one night last week, the three men owning the car decided to turn back to Springville and hold up a garage man there. They even intimated' that they would not stop short of killing, if necessary, to carry out their plan. Not wishing to be in on such a deal, Holden and Lewis brought the girls back to Provo. Sheriff Boyd places little faith on the story and is investigating it closer. |
