Show Creeds Becoming Brotherly Most remarkable, even if only in the fact that it could be held, was that meeting of the religions, in City Temple, London, last week. Observe the responses, when the representatives repre-sentatives were called upon for statements of creeds. Dr. A. de Silva, Buddhist: "Love, self-sacrifice and elimination elim-ination of selfish desire." Dr. Sherwood Eddy, American Christian : "Reconciliation to thy brother; the resistance of evil, not with evil, but with good." ' Dr. Wei-Chang Chen, Confucian : "A fulfillment of obligations obli-gations to one's fellows." Maharajadhiraja Bahadur, Hinduism: "The catholicity of brotherhood." Dr. Moses Caster, Jew: "No difference between faith and faith, or race and race." Abdul Majid, Mohhammedanism : "Doing good to others who have not done good to you." Annie Bcsant, Theosophy: "The wisdom and beauty of toleration." Verily, these seven "creeds" are in accord on Christ's commandment "Love ye one another." And true love is without qualifications, 'or .reservations. But, creeds have meant division and fighting, a condition of advantage to the ' Devil, evil or whatever religion is to combat. However, the condition progresses. Never before was so large a proportion of humanity safely worshiping as it pleased. |
