Show GLEANER GIRLS OF THIRD WARD TAKEHCNORS The Springville Third ward Gleaner chiss vas awarded first place in the original nature demonstration dem-onstration vai k ;'.t the annual Gleaner girls ('ntci tainmcnt of Kolob stake given Saturday evening eve-ning in the Second ward amusement amuse-ment hall. Mrs. Catherine Sumsion of the stake hoard was in charge. The Glenner classes of the M. I. A. have studied nature and her laws during the winter and it was with this idea foie'most that the various i wards of the stake walked out the nature scenes. Stage settings consisted of silver stars on a background of dark blue with a large full moon, the whole entertainment being given in the U.rm of a "Starlight Frolic.1' The winners choose to represent "Day." In this cosLumes and lights Employed added much to the composition, com-position, as did also the dance numbers. num-bers. Mrs. J. X. Gardner and Mrs. Will Grooms composed and directed the work, assisted by Jcssee Packard Pack-ard and Wayne Johnson. Presentations from each ward was worthy of much praise and showed in each instance originality along with considerable talent. More than 100 girls in all took part. The judges experienced some difficulty dif-ficulty in selecting the winners. Many beautiful and original costumes cos-tumes were used in the' various scenes. The First ward portrayed "The Seasons," under the direction of Lois Blanchard, Hele'n Manwaring and Percilla Neilson. "A Dream of the Woodland," was presented by the Second ward and was composed by Mrs. Jesst'e Dai-ton, Dai-ton, who was assisted by Miss Portia Por-tia Davis and Alzada Wilmott. "Trees," was the subject of the composition presented by the Fourth ward class, with Miss Mary Roylance as composer and director. Mapleton ward represented "A Spring Frolic." This scene according accord-ing to judgment was worthy of special mention. Jt was composed and directed by Zenna Whiting. After the dramatization a program pro-gram of games under the direction of Mrs. Nell Alleman was enjoyed; also dainty refreshments which wi-'re served to about 150 officers, teachers, and Gleaner girls of the M. I. A. |
