Boyd hnd spent a good parti ' Sunday In quest of burglars who, Friday night, had stolen a new saddle and bridle from the Spanish Fork Saddlery and also for burglars who had stolen $12.50 In pennies from the John Ilolley store at Mapleton. Late Friday night a horse also hfld been taken from the st recta of Spanish Fork and Saturdny morning morn-ing a man had been seen In the vicinity vicin-ity of Mnpleton riding a horse answering an-swering the description of the one taken' from Spanish Fork benrlug a new saddle. These persons hnd described the ! rider to the sheriff. j Soon after his return from an all dal search for the man described, two men entered the sheriff's office. of-fice. One of them answered in every detail the description of the man sought. He was accompanied by an individual wltb whom the sheriff had had some dealings nnd both men asked if they could not be of some assistance to him In catching catch-ing criminals. "Yes, I don't know but that you might be of some value," was the sheriff's prompt reply, he having already al-ready determined that he bad found the man whom he had spent much of the day looking for. The sheriff sher-iff suggested that he would fix them a bed in the. front portion of the jail and that Mondny morning he would try aud find something for them to do. Bright and early Mondny morning Sheriff Boyd went to Mapleton nnd brought, to Provo some of the persons per-sons who had seen the men on the horse, who Identified the man. lu jall as being the same person. . Upon being Identified, the alleged al-leged burglar confessed to having l. stolen the saddle from the Spanish Fork Saddlery, the horse from the street and the money from Holley's store. He gave his name as Edward C. Smith, of San Diego, Cal., and his age as 22. His case will come before be-fore the city court where he will be arraigned nnd will no doubt bo turned over to the district court where he will face a charge of third degree burglary. |
