Springville farmers, FFA members get awards at dinner-program Two Springville men were made honorary members of the FFA and a number of high school FFA members received awards at an annual . dinner-program dinner-program held in connection with the Kiwanis Club meeting meet-ing Thursday evening at Memorial Mem-orial Hall. The boys were the guests of Springville Banking Company and the fathers were guests of the FFA. To Supt. Russell N. Stans-field Stans-field of Nebo School District, and Ted Hicks, went the honorary hon-orary awards in recognition of their cooperation with the boys in the FFA program. Merrill Hales received the DeKalb award as the outstanding outstand-ing senior enrolled in vocational vocation-al agriculture. He also received the Crops Foundation Award. Other foundation awards went to Ronald Perry, farm electrification; Jud Harward, farm mechanics; Clair Hicks, soil and water conservation; Wayne Johnson, livestock. He also received the Star Chapter Farmer Award. John Harding received the public speaking award and Roger Ro-ger Evans, Star Greenhand. The chapter sweetheart, Susan Su-san Christensen, was presented with a "sweetheart" jacket and her attendants, Cheryl Smith and Mary Kay Lawrence received re-ceived necklaces. Ron and Jud Harward were announced as winners of the Utah County Sugar Beet Growing Grow-ing Contest for which they will each receive a $20 cash award. Speaker of the evening, Elvin Downs, state FFA advisor, Salt Lake City, discussed the importance im-portance of agriculture in the American economy. The meeting also featured a demonstration of parliamentary procedure by the local FFA team which took area honors this year. The FFA presented the pro- gram under direction of their president, Merrill Hales, who was introduced by R. D. Fra-zier, Fra-zier, master of ceremonies. Kiwanis Ki-wanis Club president, Erwin Sheffield, presided. Money, when lost, cannot be replaced. US Savings Bonds can, yet enjoy almost the same liquidity as currency. |
