Another exhibit at City Hall for local artist LaPreal Snelson Friel, will have 18 or 20 of her paintings on display at the City Hall, in another one-man exhibit from June 15, to July 15, following the exhibit by Mrs. Inez Cha-der. Cha-der. The public, is invited to view her work. A former student of Spring-ville's Spring-ville's beloved artist, John Ha-fen, Ha-fen, Mrs. Friel stated she learned much in a short time from him before he went east. Encouraged by her mother, she planned to continue with him, but he never returned. Her next instructor was Richard Gunn with whom she studied a year before taking lessons from Oliver Parson six years. Glen Turner, Rell Francis Fran-cis and Stanley Burningham have all been instrumental in moulding her art talent. She assisted Mr. Turner in organizing an art class in 1947, when a group of ladies met at the home of Mrs. Han--nah Clyde to discuss plans and they elected Mrs. Friel president, presi-dent, Mrs. Clyde named the class the Springville Art Guild and it has functioned many years ten years with Mrs. Friel president. Mrs. Friel has exhibited in Salt Lake at state fairs, and at the county building in Provo; Pro-vo; also in Spanish Fork, Tooele Too-ele and Farmington as well as Springville. Since Memorial Hall club rooms were remodeled at the invitation of Bill Phillips of the American Legion, she has kept Mrs. LaPreal Friel with one of some 20 paintings which She will exhibit at City Hall, June 15 to July 15. . f . the room decorated, eight of her paintings being hung there at present. Her paintings are also found in homes in Provo, Orem, Los Angeles, Payson and Springville. In addition to her art work, Mrs. Friel maintains membership member-ship and is active in the Aureole Aur-eole federated club, the American Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary, the Ha-fen-Dallin Art Study club, the DUP, the Rio Grande Ladies Aux., the Springville Art Guild and other social groups. Active also in LDS church work, she was Relief Society class leader many years and was also in the activities department. de-partment. She is presently a quilter and visiting teacher. She does much temple work and attends Sunday School and other meetings. |
