Mr. and Mrs. Whiting are the parents of ten sonsand daughters: Leonard C What Charles L. Whiting Mrs. Charles (Olive) Whiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Whiting married fifty years January 25 daughters: Leondiu v-. ing of Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Joseph Jo-seph W. (Helen) Wiscombe and Mrs. Arland (Wilma) Cloward of Mapleton; Mrs. Donald (June) Blanchard Springville; Mrs. Raymond (Ardith) Jensen, Wapello, Ida., Mrs Clifford (Beryl) Warner, Redwood City, Calif.; Mrs. Irel (Beulah) Barrus, Pittsburg, Pitts-burg, Calif.; Harley C. Whiting Whit-ing Blackfoot, Ida.; Jess O. Whiting, Seattle, Wash.; and Mrs. Lloyd (Carma Lou) Anderson, An-derson, Orem. The couple has 39 grandchildren grandchil-dren . and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leonard Leon-ard Whiting of Mapleton celebrated cele-brated their Golden Wedding anniversary Wednesday quietly quiet-ly at their home. Due to illness ill-ness and Mr. Whiting's recent surgery the only celebration was visit from their children who live near and telephone calls from their family out of the state. Charles Whiting was born Jan. 21, 1886 in Mapleton to len Delilah Bourne Carleton. At the age of 13, she was converted con-verted to the LDS faith and in 1904 with her mother and sister Helen came to Provo. She attended Provo schools and the BYU and taught school in Mapleton prior to her marriage. Giving many years of service to the LDS church she has held many responsible re-sponsible positions and has done edtensive genealogical work. Among her accomphsh- I Albert Milton and Harriet Su-hanah Su-hanah Perry Whiting who were among the first settlers of the community. He was the seventh sev-enth child in a family of 16 children. He attended school as a youth in Mapleton and later continued his education at the BYU. Always interested and active in civic affairs he served as a member of the Mapleton Town Board during which period the present culinary cul-inary system was brought into town. Mrs. Whiting (Olive Rachel Carleton) was born May 1, 1891 in Bear Lake, Michigan I to Benjamin Franklin and El- ments has been the completion of an entire book of poems "Autumn Leaves" which has been printed and a copy presented pre-sented to each member of her family. The couple was married in Salt Lake City Jan. 25, 1911 and they made their first home in Winter Quarters where Mr. Whiting learned the black-smithing black-smithing trade. They also lived liv-ed in Clear Creek and then made their home in Mapleton where Mr. Whiting built and operated his blacksmith shop . until 1935. In 1913 they com- pleted and moved into their |
