Helen Wheeler and Mary Schwartz are home from a month's vacation trip to the eastern states. They went to Washington D. C. to attend the national convention of the Federation of Womens Clubs and from there traveled to New York and the New Eng-land states going as far north as Maine and stopping at plac-es of interest in Boston and other large cities. They went into Canada and toured Niag-ara Falls and stopped also in Detroit, Mich, and other points of interest enroute home by way of Indiana, Iowa, Nebras-ka and Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Don Watts and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Wil-son returned Monday' from a most enjoyable vacation trip to Hawaii. They traveled by boat to the islands spending two days enroute with rela-tives of the Watts in San Pedro and Inglewood, Calif. While on the islands they tour-th- e many places of tourist at-traction and visited Mr. Watt's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thompson who have been there four years on a labor mission. They saw the Punch Bowl, Pearl Harbor, the recently erupted volcano and the damage done by the tidal wave. They toured the four major islands and visited the temple and church college do-ing a day's work on the latter. They made the trip home by jet plane, taking four hours and forty minutes to travel from the island to the west coast, averaging 595 miles per hour. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cherring-to- n and family enjoyed a va-cation weekend at Moab, view-ing the Arches national monu-ment and seeing a Hollywood film being shot there. ' They alse went to Dead Horse Point. From there they went to Mesa Verde and then to Durango, Colorado where they spent the night. They returned home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs Lloyd Bulkley of Maywood, Calif., arrived in Springville Saturday to spend a two weeks vacation with re latives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Ullock in company with their daughter Emma and her friend Gloria Langston of Salt Lake City, have returned from Norman, Okla., where they visited their daughter and sister, Mrs. Cluff Hopla and family, while Dr. Hopla is in Vienna, Austria at a research convention. The improvements proposed to be made consist of plain con-crete curb and gutter, plain concrete sidewalk 4 feet wide and 4 inches more or less thick, and plain concrete com-bination sidewalk and gutter 6 feet wide. Such improve-ments are to be made and completed in proper and work-manlike manner in accordance with plans, profiles and speci-fications on file in the office of the City Engineer, and will be constructed on the follow-ing streets: " PLAIN CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER ONLY: South side of 400 South Street from Weight Avenue (900 East Street) East 1,167 feet. Both sides of Main Street from 100 North Street North to 500 North. South side of 400 North Street East to 200 East Street. Both sides of 200 East Street from 300 North Street to 400 North Street. Both sides of 300 North Street from 100 West Street to 200 West Street. East side of 100 East Street from 200 South Street to 400 South Street. East side of 100 East1 Street from 700 South Street PLAIN CONCRETE COMBINATION SIDEWALK AND GUTTER ONLY South side of Aaron Avenue from the West line of lot at 660 East Aaron Avenue West 59 feet. The estimated cost of such improvements within said dis-trict is $52,762.00. The esti-mated cost to the individual abutter for plain concrete curb and gutter is $2.50 per linear foot, for plain concrete side-walk is $1.60 per linear foot, and for plain concrete combin-ation sidewalk and gutter is $3.00 per linear foot. In addi-tion to the above assessment, driveways will be constructed and assessed against the pro-perty benefited, the estimated cost of single driveways being $50.00 each. To defray the abutters por-tion of the cost and expense of such improvements, special taxes shall be levied upon the lots and parcels of ground to be affected or benefited by such improvements, the same to be assessed according to the front or linear foot frontage upon and against all lots, pieces or parcels of land af-fected or benefited by such improvements and abutting on said streets above described, to the entire depth back from the street line or 165 feet, whichever distance is the les-ser, with corner lot exemptions for curb and gutter of one-ha- lf the distance of the short-est side to be apportioned as provided by ordinance. The special taxes levied to defray the abutters portion of the cost and expenses of such improvements shall be paid in ten (10) equal annual install-ments with interest at the rate of five percent (5) per an-num on the unpaid balance; or the whole amount of the tax may be paid without interest within 15 days after notifica-tion by the City Treasurer of the amount due. All protests or objections to such improvements, or to the carrying out of such intention, must be in writing, signed by the owners of the property to be affected or benefited, des-cribing such property together with the number of front feet, and must be filed with the City Recorder on or before the 16th day of July, 1960. The City Council at its first regular meeting thereafter, to-w- it: the 18th day of July, 1960, will consider the proposed levy and hear and consider such protests and objections to said improvements as shall have been made.
