Robertson in his vouthful desire to do the thing for which he seemingly was destined, arouses the deepest respect for the writer and! those of his family who gave him encouragement. Like his mother, who always-looke-for a ram in the thicket, who lived to see her husband become a respected Mormon church man, Frank C. Robert-son has realized his youthful ambition. He has also held many positions with local and national writers' organizations and is presently serving as di-rector of the Western Writers of America. He has more than a hundred stories published in many languages, in addition to numerous articles and a regu-lar newspaper column. Surmounting obstacles which would have spelled failure to a less determined individual, he has come a long way since he sold his first story for $35 and "saw for the first time pic-tures on the wall and rugs on the floor of a bishop's home." Although Frank C. Robert-son- X first stories may have been Written for money to pro-vide the necessities of life for the family, we believe those we have read and especially, "A Ram in the Thicket," were written also for the sheer joy he gets out of telling a story. We enjoyed reading every chapter of this fine book, and are still wondering how he does it, agreeing with Marie Sandoz who said, "This book has so much that's peculiar to the life of this man and his time and place and so very much of that which is universal, I think it will be good reading fifty years from now."
