Show Utah Traffic Accidents Show Decrease Utah ended the first four months of this year with a 26 decrease in traffic fatala-ties, fatala-ties, (46) compared with the corresponding period of 1957, (62). April was the fourth consecutive con-secutive month in which fewer traffic deaths were recorded than for the same month last year. Collisions between two or more vehicles was the leading type of fatal accidents, (17) and the next most frequent type was the vehicle running off the road, (15). Auto-pedestrian accidents ran a close third leading type, (10). Excessive speed and driving on the wrong side were the leading factors noted in causes of the collisions and running off the road mishaps. The worst mishap so far this year was the Easter Sunday collision colli-sion in Wasatch County which snuffed out four lives. This was caused by one of the drivers driv-ers racing at over 80 miles per hour, crashing into the other vehicle on a narrow road at midnight. .Drivers in the to 34 age group were most frequently involved. in-volved. The Utah Safety Council, however, warned that the heaviest hea-viest volume of traffic is still to come during the next six months. This substantially increases in-creases the chances for accidents, acci-dents, and the need for extra careful and courteous driving. |
