F i $ I ; V ; ' 8 I I - , " i r I A 1 Omar Hansen of Springville, a teacher at the BY high school, and Clyde Lundell, Springville high school instructor, instruc-tor, residing at Spanish Fork, have each been awarded a scholarship by the National Science Foundation. Mr. Hansen will attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Mr. Lundell will go to Oregon State College at Corvallig. Each will work, on his Masters degree. The scholarship includes $4,-200 $4,-200 for expenses, plus tuition, books and travel expense. Both teachers will attend the full year, leaving in September. The sponsoring foundation has been organized by the federal government to improve science instruction throughout the United States. A total of 850 high school science and mathematic instructors have been given the scholarships, with 50 to enroll in each of 17 universities. It is a plan to bring teachers back into college col-lege to improve their background back-ground and subject matter in the science and mathematic fields. After accepting the scholarship, scholar-ship, which is offered only to high school mathematic and science teachers, a teacher agrees to continue teaching in these fields. Mr. Hansen taught ten years in Springville high school before be-fore going to the BY high school last September. This is Mr. Lundell's sixth Omar Hansen, who has accepted ac-cepted a scholarship to attend at-tend the University of Wisconsin Wis-consin at Madison next year. . j Clyde Lundell, who will continue con-tinue study on a scholarship to the Oregon State College at Corvallis, Oregon. |
