Show School Building Finances Topic At VLC Meeting Dr. Hyrum Harris of Salt Lake, executive secretary of the Utah Taxpayers Assn. and Supt. J. Easton Parratt of Murray school district, speaking speak-ing at the Utah county Wo-mens' Wo-mens' Legislative Council meeting meet-ing Thursday of last week both suggested that Utah school districts need to begin a continuation con-tinuation fund for school buildings build-ings which would allow for a year to year building and upkeep up-keep to meet needs. This type of plan, the speakers speak-ers said, is long overdue and wouldn't cost any more than the present tax levy for school buildings. It would mean putting put-ting the building program on a supervised plan to properly use this fund and having the districts make the necessary local effort, with the state funds filling in the deficit when local funds are not sufficient. ' Supt. Parratt explained that ' if the continuation plan were j used, setting money aside each I year, then expensive bonding could be avoided and the interest inter-est on floating- bonds could ultimately purchase a new school. The meeting was conducted by Mrs. Orvil Gunther, council president of Lehi. It was arranged ar-ranged by the educational committee composed of Mrs. Denzil Brown of Provo who made arrangements and Mrs. Berton Groesbeck, Springville, who introduced the speakers. Delegates attended from the various clubs of Springville as well as other civic and church groups. |
