O 1 rf.Jtl game at 6:30 and followed by the important main tilt at 8. The game was moved up a night because of BYU playing at Provo Friday and Saturday nights. Crucial Contest Tonight's game is one of the top games in the state and is also one of the most crucial, early as the season is. For Provo, who was upset at the hands of the Spanish Fork Dons last Friday at Spanish Fork, winning tonight's battle is a must since another loss for the Bulldogs would prac-tically put them out of the title picture for the first half at least. On the other hand, Springville's Red Devils can ill afford to lose to Provo since Top Springville player in the Devil-Lio- n battle. Craig play-ed a tireless and effective floor game besides walking off with top scoring- honors with 13 points. as well as offense. Craig broke up many a Payson pass play and came through with high scoring honors of the game with 13 counters. Following Alvey's opening score, Smith made a foul pitch and Jordan, who played the boards well and connected for 11 points to tie with his teammate Black, stole the ball for a basket and 5-- 0 lead. Black tossed in a counter to give the Devils a 6-- 0 lead be-fore Payson came to life and tied the game at 6 all. Jordan, Smart, Alvey and Black open-ed a quick scoring attack which ran the score to 19-- 7 at the quarter mark. Smart started the scoring with a bucket in the opening of the second quarter followed by two foul tosses by Jordan, a foul toss by Black. Jordan hit for two and the score came up to 26-11- .. Smart again hit and Smith sank a neat one from the corner and Alvey swished a beauty from far out to give the Devils a 32-1- 5 lead. Hjorth and Black scored on a foul toss and a basket to it has to meet the Spanish Fork Dons on the Don court in their final game. The Red Devils must be playing their best brand of ball against the green and white club to win. Most of the play-ers remember the shellacing they got on the Provo court last year and will eb out to reverse the score this year. Coach Garrett's boys have the ability to do just that and if they are playing their better brand of ball, should come out with a win. Devils Trounce Lions i. Tommy Alvey, who played one of his better games to i! date, started the Red Devils out on the scoring parade with a neat jump shot from the side which ultimately lead to a 57-3- 8 victory for the Devils over Payson in their first lea gue game here last Friday night. The big work plug for the Devils however, was Craig Smith, who was all over the floor, sparkling like the vet- - eran he is, in both defense Smith 6 2 1 13 Sumsion 1 3 13 TOTALE 22 25 13 57 Payson 7 17 22 38 Springville 17 35 47 57 Region Five W L Pet.
