Plans Contest A steel highway bridge de-sign competition offering 15 awards totaling $44,000 to en-gineers and college engineering students is being sponsored by the American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corpora-tion, it was announced today by Austin J. Paddock, Division president, and L. Abbett Post, executive vice president of the American Institute of Steel Construction, who will admini-ster the program. Eight awards will be made for winning entries submitted by professional and design en-gineers, including a top award of $15,000. Other grants in this category will include $10,- - 000 for first honorable men-tion, $5,000 for second honor-able mention, and $1,000 each for five third honorable men-tions. ' College engineering students will compete for $9,000 in awards, with the first award being $4,000. Pickup Reported In State Economy Pick up in the State's econ-omy was again evident as the jobless ratio dropped another 2 points, to 27 per thousand without work, another low for 1958. The seasonally adjusted unemployed ratio also dropped two points during the week to reach 3.5 per thousand.
