Show twenty feet of some of the posse, and that they could have easily killed the whole lot. James Wilson, the stage driver, did pot hear the first command of the highwaymen high-waymen to halt, and continued to drive along the road, but a dozen shots and t lit killing of his two leaders brought him to his senses and to a realization of the fact that he and his passengers were to be the victims of a hold-up. After halting the stage the robbers lined up the passengers and driver and searched them carefully. Valises were slashed open and two express boxes smashed to bits, with the result as above stated. The robbers were very abusive during the entire proceedings, pro-ceedings, roundly scoring the driver for not stopping, ard cautioning him not to repeat the offense when he was next commanded to halt. |
