Show RIOT IN FRENCH CHURCH. Fists, Canes and Chairs Used by the Combatants. There was a small riot Tuesday in a church at Aubervilliers, a village five miles from Paris, France. Father Coube, a prominent Jesuit and author, was announced to deliver a discourse and a large crowd of anti-clericals made a demonstration against him, during which M. Tory, editor of a socialist so-cialist organ, interrupted the speaker. A pitched battle followed inside the church. Fists, canes and chairs were used, and the able valadier was struck in the face wtih a cane and felled by a blow from a chair. Fifteen of the rioters riot-ers were arrested. |
