Show State Auditor Tingey has just made his report on the investigation investiga-tion into the methods employed by certain Weber county officials to fleece the State treasury out of some of its filthy lucre. The Auditor's report shows that through the padded pad-ded pay rolls of these officials the State has paid 1,922.03 more than it should have paid according to the normal county salary schedule. The names of certain men had been entered on the pay rolls when those men had never performed the work. In each instance the itemized report re-port of the auditor gives the name of the person drawing the "padded" warrants, and in each case the name is followed by the notation, "No work done." It is also noted to whom the money thus drawn was paid, the recipients in all cases being be-ing employes of the court house; the device being used to pay a salary larger than the one allowed by law. During the recent campaign cam-paign the attention of the public was called to these irregularities, but the story was branded as a "Democratic lie" by the guilty Republicans, and the latter were elected by overwhelming majorities. majori-ties. But the State Auditor has sent the chickens home to roost. Now we shall see what will be done about it. |
