Show STATE FAIR TO BE BEST YET Many Big Free Attractions to be Added This Year Nothing short of the best exhibition ever held in the intermountain regTon will satisfy President J G McDonald and members of the Utah State Pair association is the verdict on the state fair which will bo held in Salt Lake October 3rd to 8th For months the board has been energetically at work anti the fruition of the plans is near Every department of the fair will be larger than in the past as is indicated by the veritable flood of entries that is pouring in on Secretary Horace S En sign and his assistants In 1009 more than 10300 separate entries were made The indications now are that this great number will be far surpassed Entries already made and the inquiries indicate this beyound question More than 15000 will be expended in prizes In addition there will be 24 cups and 70 gold medals awarded For the speed department another 0000 has been appropriated a sum suflicient to insure good racing every day of the fair A department that will meet with public approbation is the decision to make all the open air entertainments absolutely free In the past much of this entertainment has been given in of the grand stand which necessitated the purchase of seats in the grandstand grand-stand by persons who wished to see the acrobatic and other feats The fair management decided as the fair is a public institution it should be made possible for the public to see it For this form of entertainment an appropriation appro-priation of 1000 has been made and I this sum will be augmented if a satisfactory satis-factory airship can be procured as is i hoped I In the various building of the fair the displays it is expected will ber yastlw superior those oMhc past Tll6 Zee mand for space is indicated by the Merchants Demonstrating building anew a-new department this year to house the exhibits of merchants who handle fore ign manufactured goods Th ugh I his h-is the first f year for this building UK space in it was practically gone within a few days after the announcement was made As in the past supervisors are in charge of the various departments of the fair who make arrangements subject sub-ject to the disposition of the board The supervisors are horses F Redman Red-man cattle W H Rowe sheep and swine I H Seely poultry Robert It Irvine dairy product Wm C Winder horticulture and floriculture C A Hickenlooper agriculture machinery etc Thob H Smith manufactures Frank J Hewlett minerals Thos H Smith fine arts Mrs P J Kiter womens work Mrs N A Empey educational Mrs P 1 J Rider speed A B 1 Carstensen |
