Show railroad etien lor ills oct 27 the following circular was waa issued today to i the woric ingmen of the united states to relate reint a false statement as we vin ein cerla believe and to correct an impression prea sion our friends and acquaintances may have formed concerning our signature of campaign documents going we rounds of the press and circulated on the streets entailed proclamation in chica it is made to appear thit we ill are e in favor of free silver at any ratio and the substantial establishment of two standards of money contradictory as the tha terms may be we wish to be recorded by all who are interested in our p jr ilion as being emphatically and unequivocally against ad anat any aneti measure but are ara for the sound money klarak promulgated by the republican convention at st louis our signatures were obtained obtain sd near nearly y three thre i years ago to a document pretending to be a memorial to Q across 1 then in session which in 11 aur belief belie and memory was a lucli milder paper than is ia the proclamation referred to no matter what our opinions may have been on the money question tion at the signing of the memorial nearly thres three years am ago we have learned enough since on the subject to warrant the denouncing of the tha attempt at free coinage of silver at 16 to 1 it to be directly against the interests of labor and also believing that under a condition of free coi coinage nalze this country will be subjected to one of the most frightful panics any country conn try in this world ever has seen oar be belief iel in this statement ii ia by the admission made by william J bryan candidate for president in a recent speech in the tha northwest wherein he is is reported to 10 have said he thought free coinage cabage would bring for the present stagnation and panic but from which in four yeara we would recover we do not mt believe this country can stand sand an additional four years of misrule and distress and are therefore ther etore opposed to the sentiments contained conia ined in the tha aforesaid proclamation respectfully P M grand chief of the brotherhood of locomotive engineers F P grand master of the locomotive fireman F FW W ARNOT grand secretary Secret itry and treasurer of the brotherhood of locomotive loc motive fire men |
