SHAW. sl , f A 5 ' J ' The aftermath of the recent kiiiing of "Tanner" Smith, former gangster of New York City, is the heart-rending tale of pretty Mrs. Grace Madden Shaw. Grace Madden, a pretty miss of New York's west side, became the bride of Robert "Rubber" Shaw, a pal of Smith's, on Monday July 28. Three days later she was a widow. Two days following the killing of "Tanner" Smith, Shaw married Miss Madden. The couple wont to Ho-boken, Ho-boken, N. J. The New York police sent out a general alarm for Shaw, charging him with being implicated in the killing of Smith. Evidently the "Tanner" Smith gang decided to settle matters in their own way. Through the city's "underworld "under-world channels" Shaw was traced to Hoboken and shot to death in a street battle, during which more than two dozen revolver shots were fired. Mrs. Shaw is being held as a material witness by the Hoboken police. |
