Show Many Soldiers Given Aid by Red Cross Home Service AID was g-iven to 754 returned soldiers by the Salt Lake county Red Cross home service ser-vice during the month of July, according- to a report issued yesterday. Of these, 131 were transients. 101 received information regarding employment and medical c.re, and forty-seven were given financial assistance. The record is the highest so far at the local headquarters. head-quarters. The report showed that $lf27.86 was spent during the month. Of this, JM7.3& was expended in loans to needy soldiers and $64.55 was spent in meal tickets. The service men returned re-turned $252 o5 of the money advanced in loans. Thirty letters were sent out by the department and thirty - three were received. The service sent seventy -nine telegrams and received sixty-two. In illustration of the work of the service. The Red Cross fitted him out with clothes, bought him tools to engage in the futomobile repair business busi-ness and secured hi:n a job. At the young man's request word was not sent to his parents until he had made g"Ood. In a few weeks the soldier returned the money advanced for the toos and clothing, and announced he was ready to go home. The Red Cross chapter where he lived sent him transportation transporta-tion and he is now with his parents. |
