Show COOLIDGE FAVORITE. Calvin Coolidge, Republican candidate candi-date for governor of Massachusetts, should be reelected by an increased majority ma-jority over his Democratic opponent, Eichard H. Long. The Republican platform declared for the ratification of the league of nations covenant with necessary rc5?rvations or interpretations, interpreta-tions, while the Democratic platform upholds the course of Senator David "Walsh in voting for amendments along with Chairman Lodgr. Governor Coolidge, Cool-idge, it will be remembered, took charge of the situation in Boston when the policemen went on strike and not only restored order, but has been successful suc-cessful in reorganizing the force without with-out reemploying the strikers. The remocratie platform calls for the reinstatement rein-statement of the men who proved false and recreant. The Republicans back the governor in his declaration that the strikers shall never again wear the uniform of guardians of the peace in the city of Boston. As a result many of the leading Democrats of the state have bolted their party ticket and will vote for Governor Coolidge. So it is reasonable to expect a Republican majority ma-jority of from 50,000 to 100,000 in Massachuretts when the votes arc counted. The prohibition question cuts some figure in New Jersey and Ohio and some of the other states, but it is difficult to figure out what the "wets" expect to gain by agitation at this time. |
