BlS GUSH IN hunk cm Killing of Policeman by Negro Results in Riots in Wilmington. WILMINGTON, Del.. Koyi 1:;. Rioting between whites and negroes broke out here tonight, following the killing of one pullcenian and the wounding of another by negroes whom they were questioning question-ing regarding a recent robbery. Angered by tho double shooting, bands of whites roamed the streets tonight. A clasli occurred when 300 suddenly came upon four negroes. Both sides opened fire and Banncl Field, a negro, fell,' with a wound In the head from which he Is expected to recover. The whites then closed in on the other negroes, who were saved only by tho prompt arrival of fifteen policemen. The patrolmen used their clubs freely, while the three negroes fled. Later police reserves re-serves were ordered to patrol tho negro quarter and break up any gatherings. Meanwhile, the negroes alleged to have been Implicated in tho shooting of tho two policemen were taken from the Jail in which they had been placed and sent to Philadelphia under heavy guard because be-cause of fear by the police that an attempt at-tempt might be made to lynch them.
