' K V"'1- - '- V FRENCH ORPHANS STILLED I Relief Given War Destitute by American Organization Organiza-tion Told. The gratitude of France for 'what Americans have done for the orphans made by the war was told yesterday by Mrs. William R. Van Brunt, sister of Mrs. Victor C. Heikes, 264 North State street, who is stopping In Salt Iake en route to her home in San Francisco, after many months of service overseas with the Rockefeller foundation and with the American Red Cross. Mrs. Van Brunt said that the need for the work of the American organization for the Fatherless Children of France is as strong today as it waff before the fighting cea&ed, and added that there is much misery ajid destitution in France, despite the efforts which the country la making. The Fatherless Children of France supporters sup-porters in this country have adopted, she said, more than 200,000 children already, and at the headquarters of the work in France there are on the rolls the names of 60,000 more whose cases have been Investigated and found most worthy of assistance through American gener-os'ty. gener-os'ty. Mrs. Van Brunt was affiliated with the children's section of the Red Cross, where she had opportunity to see and Investigate In-vestigate the work being done for the war orphans. The French, she said, told her many times that the Americans can accomplish things which the French themselves cannot. The cost of adopting a child for a year under the administration of the Fatherless Father-less Children of France Is $36.50. More than 2."0 of them have been cared for by Salt Lakers, and the work Is not yet i over. T. W. Boyer. treasurer of the local lo-cal organization, can be located at the Continental National bank. Mrs. Van Brunt asked that special mention be made of the need for funds at present, and said that Americans will never know how Important the work has been or how much the PYench appreciate what has been done. She will leave today for her home in San Francisco. |
