Show OFFICERS GIVEN SERIFJEDIL Wood, Scott and Morrison Among Those Awarded War Honors. WASHINGTON'. April 3. A list of officers of-ficers who have teen awarded the distinguished dis-tinguished service medal for exceptionally meritorious service during the war. Issued by the war department today. Includes the names of Major Generals Leonard Wood, Hugh 1 Scott and Johr. F. Morrison. Mor-rison. At the same t?rhe the department announced an-nounced award of the medal to General K. Otani of the Japanese army, "for especially es-pecially meritorious and distinguished service as senior allied commander in Liberia," Li-beria," : Among other officers given the medal are: Brigadier Generals Robert II. Giles, British army. Two civilians received the medal, Frank B. Jewett, late lieutenant colonel in the signal corps, for his service In connection connec-tion with the development of technical apparatus ap-paratus for the army, and Charles Eis-man, Eis-man, late vice president of the committee commit-tee on supplies, council of national defense, de-fense, for his "energy, courage, business ability and foresight" in enlisting Amer- I ican industry and thus making "possible the prompt equipment of our armies with clothing and equippape." The citation of Major-Geneml Holhrook refers to his "conspicuous service -s commanding com-manding general, southern department, where his firmness and tact in handling a threatening situation on the Mexican border bor-der materially improved the conditions between be-tween the United States and Mexico. Genend "Wood's decoration was based on his service as a department, division divi-sion and camp commander during the war. The citation says: "He has displayed qualities of leadership leader-ship and professional attainments or" a higttt order in the administration and training of his various commands and has furthered in every way during the war the system of officers' training schools. " The decoration given General Scott mentions men-tions the fact that as chief of staff he persistently urged that adaption of the selective service law and as commanding general at Camp lAx he organized and trained the "miscellaneous troops committed com-mitted to his care." LONDON, April 3. Captain W. E. Mc-Guinley Mc-Guinley of the American expeditionary force was decorated with the military cross by King George at Buckingham palace toc"ay. The captain is a member of the medical corps. |
