Show Soldier Performers Give Artistic Revue AX entertainment that was unique in the manner of presentation, in. the wide variety, of material used and In the personnel of its performers was presented pre-sented at .the Salt Lake theater 1: st n ; s h t by t e C am p Lewis players. The I layers carry a portable stage with draperies of simple . but artistic desism. The entertainment included everything from low comedy and monologue to the classic play and grim, lurid trageiy. The r layers, with the exception of the one woman member of the company, were all former members of the United States a.rmv training camp at Camp Lewis. Wash. Althoueh the performance was vaudeville, vaude-ville, it was different from the ordinary vaudeville performance. Of tiie whole program, the most interesting in-teresting offering was the playlet, "The iV.ittvring Gate." by the talented and original Irish playwright. Lord Dunsany. The rhythmic beaut v of the lines, the oris Ira in y of the plot, the master de-lineation de-lineation of character, all united to make a play of marvelous but melancholy beauty. Robert Knight, as Bill the crook, who hopes to find happiness In heaven, achieved a fine bit of acting. The note of grief expressed by his outcry on opening open-ing the el it tering gate was so' pathetic that it left the sympathetic auditor momentarily mo-mentarily stunned. Robert Cos griff, as the other "crook."' was also excellent. The "Copper City" quartet made a big j hit with its lively melody and clean-I clean-I cut comedy. Each member possesses a i voice admirably adapted for quartet work, i Bob Armstrong, "In a Litre of Everything," Every-thing," won favor immediately. His man- ner of telling his stories was particularly : entertaining. "Fright," another one -act j play, was an ex cert ion ally grim, ghastly phantasm. Miss Mary Reynnlds. 3s Leila, 1 did commendable acting. Robert Arm-I Arm-I error, sr. Robert Cosgriff. Robert Knight. ! Gil Kinkier and Ernest Elgin made up a J strong cast. Leonard Ay les worth. the Hebrew monologist. presented a laughable i monologue and told his stories well. Fe-! Fe-! cetti and Tinkler, eccentric violinist and j accordionist: Williams and his guitar, and ; the Two Allies, gymnasts, provided ae-j ae-j ceptable entertainment. |
