Show WOODMEN RAISE ASSESSMENT RATE CHICAGO, March 26. More than a million mil-lion members of the Modern Woodmen of America, the largest fraternal Insurance organization in the country, had their rates increased today to meet the abnormal ab-normal death losses resulting from the influenza epidemic, which caused a reduction re-duction in the beneficiary fund of tho order or-der from $12,000,000 to $700,000. On the present membership tho increase is a flat advance of 50 per cent and ail new members Joining hereafter will have to pay materially increased rates. Even this increase is said to be not a strictly actuarial adequate rate, but it was as far as the membership could be Induced to go at this time. Tho action was taken today at a special spe-cial meeting of the head camp of the order after three days' stormy debate. |
