Show this matter as well as all the other states whose volunteers still remain in this country. The next few weekswill tell the story. PROTESTS HEEDED. Probably to allay the fears of national na-tional guard divisions that they were not to be sent overseas, the war department de-partment has announced the selection of five national army cantonments for the exclusive training of replacement units for the infantry and artillery. These camps are all located in the south and three of them will be used by the infantry and two by the artillery. The war department also contemplates the establishment of two more artillery, replacement re-placement camps. A week of more ago orders were issued to fill up divisions ready to be sent abroad with trained men from some of the national guard divisions and many protests were made, some of the governors of states whose men were affected going to Washington Washing-ton to express their opinions regarding the matter. The outlook at the present time is that drafted men will be used for replacement purposes and that the guardsmen will not be taken from the regiments in which they enlisted in their home states and put into national army units or used to fill out depleted regular divisions. But even in case some such transfers arc made in emergencies we do not expect the war department to break up any of the guard divisions which have been in training for the best part of a year. , Utah is interested in |
