Show DRAFT BOARDS TO BE FREE FROM POLITICS Marshal General Crowder Gives Instructions on This Subject. Should a candidate for political office, of-fice, or one already holding such an office, who is a member of a selective service draft board, attempt to make use of either position in interference with the work of the other, his case is to be promptly reported to the federal fed-eral authorities, according to instructions instruc-tions received yesterday, by Captain F. V. Fitz Gerald from E. H. Crowder, provost marshal general of the United States army. Copies of the letter of instructions are being sent to local boards from the office of the adjutant general. "It has been decided," General Crowder writes, "to leave in the hands of each governor the duty and responsibility respon-sibility of closely observing the personnel per-sonnel of each board in tho state, and if at any time it is discovered that a member of a board has permitted political po-litical considerations or affiliations or his candidacy to affect his actions in the discharge of his duties as a member mem-ber of the board, the governor should recommend an immediate substitute." Draft board Xo. 4 of Salt Lake City yesterday issued notice to all registrants regis-trants having mechanical or technical ability or training to report at once to its headquarters at the capitol before or on Saturday. It is the desire to meet the requirements as set forth in "The Nation's Want Column," recently re-cently printed in The Tribune. Board No. 2 reports that 'William Harris Edwards and Allie Miles, both called for military service, have failed to report to the board for roll call, and if they do not respond at the eopitol by tomorrow. Clerk C. L. Price says the board will be compelled to class them as deserters. |
