Show CHECH MiOHS BIT THREE HITS, YET LOSES GIB Bill Prough, With His Pockets Pock-ets Full of Horseshoes, Gets Away With a .Shutout. By IntemationaJ News Servk'e. OAKLAND. Cal.. June 27. Tlie Oaks today celebrated the. first twilight game in Oakland by winning a lucky victory from the Vernon Tigers this evening, 1 to 0, and reduced the Tigers' lead for the series to two games to one. The crowd was considerably larger than the usual Thursday matinee gathering. Middleton tripled in the first inning and .scored on Miller's out. After that the Oaks got nary a hit off Chech until the seventh inning. The Vernon slab-ster slab-ster pitched a remarkable game, and with any kind of luck except a Hindu curse like that upon him today, should have won in a walk. The Tiger batsmen touched Prough for a total of nine hits, but failed to score. The Vernonite.s hit safely twice in the sixth and again in the last frame, but the Indian sign was plastered all over them. The game was played in fifty-seven minutes. VERNON. AB. R. H. PO. A. K.
