SPANISH influenza has claimed three more Utah soldier boys. Samuel Elmer Howard of Riverton ia dead In France; Corporal J. Eari Drown of Midvale passed away Sunday at Camp Jackson. Fla., and Bert Oakey of American Fork succumbed to the disease dis-ease Sunday at Fort Logan, Coo. Mr. Howard, who was born at River-ion River-ion twenty -six years ago. was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Howard. He enlisted May 15, 1918, with the engineers en-gineers and went first to Boulder, Colo., where he remained for six weeks, going from there to Fort Dodge, la., and "from there to New York. He had only been in France a Tew weeks at the time of his death, which occurred on October 2. In addition to his parents. Mr. Howard How-ard is survived by three brothers and three sisters. One of the brothers is Lorenzo M. Howard, 22 years of age, who Is a sharoshooier .with the American forces In France. Corporal J. Earl Drown enlisted in November, 1917. in the quartermaster's department and went direct to Camp Jackson. Fla.. where he had since been. The young man was 2.1 years of age and Is survived by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. David A. Drown, three brothers and one sister. He was a native of Midvale. The body will be brought to Midvale for funeral fu-neral services and interment. Bert Oakey was born in American Fork t wen t - f ive years ago, t he son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Oakey. He left A neriou Fork for Fort Logan, Colo., three weeks ago to enter training with a number of other limited service men. Last Saturday the parents received a message from Boulder announcing that the young man was critically III with in-fluenzn. in-fluenzn. They left on an afternoon train for his bedside, but he died before they reached him. The body Is expected to arrive in American Fork tomorrow. |
