Show DIREGTORS Piif FOB I Committees Named by Utah Society at Meeting in Local Lo-cal Headquarters. A meeting of the board of directors of' the Utah Humane society was held yesterday yes-terday afternoon at the organization's headquarters, 120 East First South street. Several committees were appointed at the meeting to conduct special work in connection with the society, llrs. Lily Barnes, Mrs. H. W. Servis and Thomas Iledman were appointed to wait upon the county commissioners to secure for the humane society, If possible, the work of collecting the dog tax in the county. Mrs. F, Vernon Gordon and Mrs. John Z. Brown were appointed to ascertain whether motion pictures might not be obtained for some of the theaters in the city with a view to educating the children chil-dren in humane work. A legislative committee, com-mittee, consisting of Mrs. C. S. Kinney, Mrs. G. B. Blakeley. Miss Kate Williams, Thomas Redman and George H. Smith, was appointed to look after the interests of the society at the next legislature and to obtain the necessary humane legisla- i tion. Mrs. Joseph Geoghegan, Miss Etta Powers, Mrs. Lily Barnes and Paul S. Rattle were appointed a finance committee. commit-tee. Albert E. Foster was made assistant secretary. According to a report made by the superintendent, su-perintendent, James M. Forsythe, the society so-ciety did work mainly in Salt Lake and county to the extent of handling nearly 9000 cases of cruelty to animals in both the city and the county. On account of the somewhat disorganized condition of the society last year, Mr. Forsythe reported, re-ported, there is a large part of the work of the society of which there is no record at all, but that steps have been taken to perfect the organization for the present year. The committee appointed at a previous meeting, consisting of Dr. T. B. Beatty, John Henry Evans, Miss Kate Williams and Mrs. C. H. McMahan, to see the city commission for the purpose of having the humane society handle the humane work for the city, reported that so far it had failed to get satisfactory action on the part of the department of public safety, but that it had not given up the matter. Steps have also been taken, the committee com-mittee reported, looking toward obtaining obtain-ing for the society the work of collecting the dog tax in the city and the county. A plan will be submitted to the commission commis-sion by which this work can be done by the society for $2000 less than the city now pays for doing the work. |
