Acting under instructions from the headquarters of the mountain division at Denver, the local chapter of the American Keel Cross yesterday issued a request that all the knitters, -whether rT'orkiiiL' individually or in conjunction V- wilh auxiliaries, turn iu their finished sweaters today. The Denver office desires de-sires to malte a large shipment of sweaters without delay, lience the request re-quest for tho immediato turning iu of all the finished ones -without waiting to complete other articles that it may have been Intended to forward to the Salt Lake chapter at the same time. In as much as most of the beginners iu the work of knitting started on scarfs or mufflers before "tackling" the more difficult sweater, there is a goodly supply of the mufflers, but the demand for sweaters and still snore sweaters continues to grow daily, especially es-pecially in view of the" fact that the government does not allow any soldier to leave for a foreign shove until he is provided with a sweater. The University of Utah auxiliary, which comprises about 130 members, is doing a big work for the Bed Cross cause, as is evidenced by the vast number of finished articles turAcd in. Within the last thtee weeks tho organization or-ganization has used more than 300 pounds of wool, each member is devoting devot-ing three hours or more per week to the work and it is stated that tho bandage ban-dage rollers are among the most proficient pro-ficient in the city. The Amity auxiliary yesterday worked at the rooms iii the Atlas block and will continue to do so each Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays are , yet open to workers who desire the quarters for sewing and knitting. Much Material Goes Out. Scores of individual workers call at the supply department each day and receive re-ceive materials for tho work they have in hand or are about to begin. Aside from the smaller consignments given out yesterday the Cottonwood stake auxiliary took material for seventeen sheets and scvonty abdominal bandages. ban-dages. Twenty women of the Unsign stake . are now engaged in Red Cross work at tho headquarters of the Primary association asso-ciation of the Mormon church. |
