Show ONE POINT SETTLED. J. A. Farrell, president of the United States Steel corporation, has assumed responsibility for furnishing all the steel plates needed by tho government in shipbuilding. There will be no delay de-lay and there will be no excuses, for Mr. Farrell has stated that if the mills are, not ready to meet any demands he will make them so. So we may regard re-gard the steel pinto question as definitely defi-nitely settled. The next thing will be to put the ships together so the plates can be used. Chairman Hurley is optimistic op-timistic regarding the work of the emergency fleet corporation and there does not seem to be any good reason why the long-delayed programme should not bo carried out. We notice that some of the Maine shipbuilders have recently visited Washington for the purpose ,of securing more contracts for wooden ships. It is claimed that there is timber enough available for the purpose. |
