Show CALL UPON GOMPERS TO SETTLE TROUBLE SAN JUAN, P. R., March 29. Upon j the receipt of a statement from Dr. Ar- ! thur Yager, governor of Porto Rico, that the governor believed no general conference confer-ence between striking laborers and. employers em-ployers was possible at this time, "for the obvious reason that there is no general gen-eral strike, nor is the strike movement visible in most parts of the island," Santiago Iglesias, senator at large, and representative of the American Federation Federa-tion of Labor in the island, has sent a cable dispatch to Samuel Gompers, president presi-dent of the American Federation of Labor, La-bor, again asking that a general strike be declared and that financial support be given. The message of Senator Iglesias also urged Mr. Gompers to request that Presi-I Presi-I dent Wilson "remove the tyrannical lo-! lo-! cal government and industrial oppressions." oppres-sions." Senator Iglesias asserted today that 10,000 men were out on strike and that strikebreakers have been furnished by the police. |
