Show CHILD MAY OIE; ll" OTHERS ME BURKED Elmo Yearsley, 3, Mother and Sister Victims of Christmas Tree Fire. One child probably fatally, and the mother and a second child seriously, burned, was a result of a Christmas tree fire at 9:45 o'clock last night at tho home of William Pehrson, 66!) ICast Second South street. The police and firemen conducted a vain search for a young man who, at the imminent risk of his life, rushed into the blazing building and searched about the burning room until he found little Klmo Yearsley, a girl of 3 yea rs, an d ca rried her on I side. According to the grandfather of the child, who lives at that address, his son-in-law, Zemophon Yearsley and family, consisting of his wife and two children, who reside at 354 West Fifth South street, came to witness the illumination of the tree, which stood in the front room of the house. While the adults in the party stepped into the dining room, they permitted the children to remain near the tree. They were startled by a cry of pain, and, rushing into the room, discovered dis-covered the tree lying ablaze on the floor, with the little girl beneath it, and the furniture rapidly catching fire. In a moment the room was a mass of flajne and smoke, and all but the mother of the child rushed for the open. The mother succeeded in throwing the burning tree from her daughter, but, partly overcome j by the smoke, she was unable to drag I her out of the house. Meanwhile the j child, dazed, crawled behind the piano, ; from where, the young man told by- ! . standards before he disappeared, that lie removed her. The little girl was rushed to the emergency emer-gency hospital by Mrs. Cora Garrison, who resides at 670 Kast Second South street, and James ' Sorenson, ."79 Kast Second South street, in an automobile, where Dr. A. S. Bower attended her, Miss Hazel Rock, the nurse on duly, meanwhile administering first aid. The face and head of the child had been very seriously burned, as had both hands and arms to the elbow, and pa rt of her back. Mrs. Yearsley sustained severe se-vere burns about the hands, face and neck, as did also Zemophon, Jr.. the 2-y 2-y ear-old son. Doth, were treated at the residence of a neighbor. Small hope" was held out last night for the recovery of the little girl. Furniture in the room was entirely consumed, con-sumed, damage of about $5 00 being inflicted. in-flicted.
