Show 7 ARE KILLED WHEN STEAM PIPE BURSTS AN ATLANTIC PORT, Aug. 21. Seven men were killed and a number are said to have been injured tonight hy the bursting of a steam pipe in an American transport lying- at a dock here. Fourteen coal passers, it was said, were in the auxiliary coalroom of the ship when the explosion occurrecr Seven of them were so badly scalded that when rescuers made their way to the room they were dead. The naval authorities declined to give any information concerning the cause of the accident, and no report was made 1 to the police. The transport, which is said to have been one of the largest and most popular of the German liners before it was taken over bv the government, has been in the harbor for some time undergoing repairs. |
