Show m CONVENTION OF REPUBLICANS TODAY Meeting Will Be Called to j Order at Salt Lake Theater The-ater at 10 a. m. i i i Republicans of I'tah will gather in .Salt Lake today for the state aud con-gressioDat con-gressioDat comeutions which will nam candidates for the supreme court and for congress. , i The state rouyrntion will be called to order in the Salt Lake theater at 10 o'clock this tnorniug by State (,'bair-nian (,'bair-nian Gleu Miller, and John deusou will be installed as temporary chairman oi the convention. A platform is to lie adopted and then the convention will proceed to name three candidates for the supreme court, .lust what the .Republicans will adopt iu the way of a platform is not certain, but it is" expected that the platform will declare against the proposed constitutional con-stitutional amendment relative to taxation taxa-tion of mines, anil it is intimated thai, it will also probably take a stand against state monopolv of the compensation compen-sation insurance business. However, until the committee is named to draft the platform and makes its report, there is nothing certain as to what the planks will lie, it is stated. Among tho candidates who will hi before the convention for the supremt court are J. E. Prick of Salt Lake; A. K. Bowen of Logan; George G. Armstrong, Arm-strong, T. I). Lewis, Morris" L. Ritchie anil VV. J. Barrette of Salt Lake. Judge h'rick is at present a member of the supreme - bench, and local f?c-publican f?c-publican leaders declare that his nomination nomi-nation is practically certain. It is also intimated that A." K. Bowen will be nominated and the-selection of the third candidate remains to be seen. .For congress there is no candidate mentioned from the Second district, wdiich is the local district, save former Governor William Spry. It is Expected that Governor .Spry will receive the nomination by acclamation. The Second Sec-ond district will hold its congressional convention at the Salt Lake, theater immediately following the state eon-ven eon-ven lion. Tho First congressional district has called its convention to bo held at the Hippodrome theater at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Two possible candidates have been talked of before this convention, con-vention, they being W. II. Wattis of Ogden and A. R-' Heywood of the same city. |
