Show SUFFRAGE SILL ITEJPFIIL Both Sides Confident of Victory When Ballot Occurs Today. WASHINGTON, Sept. 25. Outcome of i the vote in the senate on woman suffrage apparently was in greater doubt tonight than has been any acLion by congress j in many years. The 'only point on which j the advocates and opponents were agreed was that the house resolution proposing ! submission to the states of the Susan B. j Anthony amendment to the federal con- stitutlon would be called up when the1 senate convenes tomorrow. Both sides : expressed the greatest confidence In the result, but it was not certain a vote would be reached before adjourn nnt, although Senator Jones of New Mexico, chairman of the senate woman suffrage committee, and other suffrage leaders were determined deter-mined tonight to hold the resolution before be-fore the senate until final disposition. Both side3 expected only brief debate on the resolution and believed a vote would be reached during the day. Supporters Sup-porters of the measure said they would have from one to three votes over the necessary two-thirds majority, but opponents oppo-nents privately expressed complete con- 1 fideneo that they had enough votes to defeat the resolution and thus prevent j any further action on equal suffrage ; until the Sixty-sixth congress convenes ! In December, 1919. Final arrangements for tomorrow's con- , test were made today with negotiations' for pairing of absent senators and cam- J palgning by not ii fact ions.
