Show DRAFT EVADERS GO INTO GAMP Inducted Into the Service After Serving Term6 in Jail. CAMP LEWIS, Tacoma, Wash., Dec. 3. While hundreds of men are receiving their discharges from the army here each day, each week' sees about ten national army men being mustered - Into service whose length of stay in service remains to be determined. These men are draft evaders and deserters.' PracticaJly all of them are Just out of jail after serving various terms because of their effort to evade service. Orders have been given from Washington Wash-ington that these men are to be Inducted Into service and . other orders lorbld their being included with any men to be mustered out. Beginning Monday next attempt will be made- to send men discharged from camp to their homes according to localities. locali-ties. California men numbering approximately approx-imately 500 will leave on Monday. Special Spe-cial trains will carry them to San Francisco, Fran-cisco, where the party. will spilt up for various destinations within that state. California has more men here than any other Btate. One hundred discharged officers left for their homes today. Tomorrow - 105 additional officers will end their army career. All previously had expressed desire de-sire for Immediate discharge when the government could spare their services. The Forty-fourth infantry regiment will have Its headquarters at Sari Francisco, Fran-cisco, according to orders received here today from the western department by Colonel K. N. Jones, commander of the regiment. One battalion is to be stationed sta-tioned at Fort Lawton, Wash., and this will relieve many of the United States guards now on duty in this state. Members Mem-bers of the guard are to come to this camp for demobilization. Non-declarant alienB are to be discharged dis-charged from the army, according to war department instructions published here today.- Forty Turks and Bulgarians in the 166th depot ' brigade were discharged dis-charged today : as non-declarant citizens of those countries. More than 250 officers, principally lieutenants lieu-tenants who have been attached to the units of the Thirteenth division, have been returned to the 166th depot brigade. Practically all will soon be mustered out of service. , . |
