Show ONE DEATH, 53 NEW CASESJT OGDEN Elks' Home Is Opened for Reception of Influenza i Sufferers. . . :' Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Dec. 3. One death from influenza influ-enza and fifty-three new cases were reported re-ported to the board of health today. The death was that of Horace Ives White, -8 years of age, 422 Thirty-first street. , The Elks' home was opened today as an emergency ihospital, under the supervision of the Red Cross. The patients from the emergency hospital in the basement of the First Congregational church were moved into the spacious quarters of the Elks on Grant avenue. Additional beds and cots will be placed in the hospital tomorrow and accommodations will be made for fifty patients at once. Owing to the failure of the doctors of the city to report the cases of influenza promptly, the health board of the city IB-sued IB-sued the following notice today: "All doctors and practitioners must, report re-port Influenza cases to the health office by telephone immediately upon discovery. Any telephone in the city ball building will receive tho Information." It was announced by the health officers that arrests may be made of. the doctors doc-tors who are ignoring tlie health order. The health board published a notice today to-day urging the -people of the city to do their Christmas shopping early and attend at-tend to it in the morning hours and avoid any crowding in the afternoon. The people peo-ple are urged to not wait until late in the day or late In the month, but do their shopping early. The merchants of the city have joined with the health board and are going to avoid crowding their stores and handle the situation in full conformity with the latest regulations of the health board. The merchants have promised to see that their buildings are properly ventilated and are thoroughly disinfected, and that their clerks all wear masks. Henry C. Johnson, superintendent of the city schools, was today appointed to take complete charge of the observance of the quarantine upon the hohies in the city where influenza cases are being nursed or are passing through the convalescent stage. The principals of the various schools have been appointed as his as-i slstants. |
